The Bus Trip

Several weeks ago we practiced bus evacuation, it was exciting but we didn't have the chance to go for a ride.  The class was eager to go to the Corn Maze but extremely excited to go on the bus. They were all smiles as we sat ready to go.

Our Jack O'Lanterns

I try to plan art projects where the kids get to add on to their knowledge of creating.  This time they got to work more with mixing colours.  They were able to mix the paint on their palettes and then layer it on their papers.  When the paintings were dry we got to practice cutting.  We went through a lot of black paper to achieve the looks we were going for.

We started with yellow, orange and brown paint.

We mixed and mixed and mixed the paint.

We painted right to the edge of the paper.

The paintings turned out beautiful.

Then we cut some black paper and turned them into jack o'lanterns.

We cut out our own eyes, mouths and stems.

Don't they look cute under our apple tree.

Apple Print Painting

The other day we used our show & tell apples to make apple print paintings.  After having the fun of painting we turned them into apples.  They are hanging on our beautiful tree in the hallway.

We got covered in paint.

Our soap and sink got covered in paint.

Sometimes creativity is messy and lots of fun.

Lots of beautiful paintings.

Some kids loved the red apples.

Some kids loved the green apples.

Some liked a little of both.

MIxing Colours

We had a great time mixing colours on the light table.  They show up very well with the extra light.  Most of the students already knew a lot about mixing colours but they sure liked experimenting with them.

They started with yellow, red and blue coloured water.

They were able to make green and black.  Lots and lots of black.

They used eye droppers to add the colours to the mixing cup.

Students worked very carefully with the eyedroppers and cups.

The first day of mixing the students were very careful to use drops of colour.  The second day they tried using the whole eyedropper to create their colours.  They found that the colours were similar even if the volume of liquid increased.
The students worked mixing colours over two days.  This may be something that we will revisit in a few weeks, maybe mixing paint.  What fun!

Collaborative Play

Collaborative Play is a time when students plan their play, draw out their plan and then play what they planned.  Before starting they share the plan with the class and after playing they report back about what happened.

This group is at Construction.  They use blocks and cars to play with.

There was a lovely picture of the group working at train but for some reason it won't upload for me.
This is the plan for train.

This group is at Art.  A fun place to play but very hard to plan.
